My Bacteriology assignment...READ...

Paramjit Singh(139470)
Methanobacterium thermoautotrophicum

This bacteria has optimum temperature ranges from 35 - 70oC (moderate thermophile with a optimum growth temperature of 65 oC). The optimum pH ranges from 6.0 - 8.5. This is a strict anaerobic and are non motile. This bacteria also requires only CO2, H2 and salts for growth. Methanobacterium thermoautotrophicum is a chemoautotroph. This bacteria is able to produce high yields of methane which can be a source of fuel for production of energy.

Methanobacterium thermoautotrophicum is a methanogen which is able to produce methane through anaerobic process. M. thermoautotrophicum is a decomposer which is able to degrade material to produce methane. My idea is to use this methane to run a motor vehicle where methane is the fuel source. Instead of having a fuel tank which vehicles have to refuel every now and then, why not have M. thermoautotrophicum culture in your vehicle as fuel cell which can be refilled with nutritional substrate such as human and agricultural waste material. While consuming the waste material, it will produce methane. The methane will be used by the motor engine to move by combustion of methane thus producing CO2 which can be routed back to the bacterial cell. CO2 is required by M. thermoautotrophicum for growth. Heat produced due to methane combustion can also be used to maintain optimum temperature for M. thermoautotrophicum growth. This shows a perfect dynamic system of using all forms of energy in perfect harmony without wastage and obtaining higher efficiency.

Besides that, usage of M. thermoautotrophicum as alternative fuel source in motor vehicles, it also helps in bioremediation which will help our highly polluted environment to heal much quickly by using pollutants as substrate for M. thermoautotrophicum to produce methane. Cost of living due to high fuel cost can be overcome by using methane bacteria as fuel cell. This will help a lot of us as well as many other in the poor nations to combat poverty and not affected by surging fuel price on world market.

It is hoped that someday all the huge multinational oil & gas companies would collaborate with the world to solve earth’s biggest problems caused by their product which is “Global Warming”. When petroleum resources has run out, I hope this huge highly profitable companies would do a good deed in helping the world solve this problem by increasing research and development in making ideas such as mine workable. This would reduce air pollution as well find a full proof solution solid waste disposal in a much more cost effective manner.
Thank you…

Above was a simple bacteriology assignment that I handed in....
The assignment was a tricky one...My lecture asked all students come up with a crazy ideas to use bacteria in various industries which current not being used yet...

It means something completely new idea...or a new use bacterias for human use.....

After handing it in, my lecture comment was simple..."if ever such vehicle is produced, please give one to me as a souvenier" hehe....

Have fun reading....
